Summer 2012 Collage Workshops

Video of most recent work by workshop participants

Friday, May 25, 2012

I am always amazed when people have breakthroughs in the studio while working on their collages. Last week, four out of the five people who attended shed a tear or two, for various reasons. I felt honored that they trusted the space, trusted me, and trusted the other people in the room enough to share their story.

I always felt deeply connected to my creative process, and believe it is an essential part of who I am. Some people NEED to exercise every day, some need to meditate...I need to create. It's not always about creating art...sometimes it's working on a video, learning how to cook a new dish, or re-organizing my studio. Whatever it is, I need to keep learning and expanding my world. That's what makes me tick. What makes you tick?

Taking a Breather

I'm taking a little break from making art for the next few weeks. I'll be doing some training for the utility company, and don't have much time to make art. I will continue to work on my healthy art project, though, and will keep you posted on the progress of that. More to come!

New Work

In preparing for Open Studios, I got inspired to make three of these large collages using some of the new paper I found recently at FLAX (an awesome art and paper supply store in San Francisco)

And Thanks to Rigel Brooks, who came by on Saturday and made this awesome video of myself and 3 other artists. Nice work, Rigel!

Healthy Art Program

Since I recently was accepted into the Healthy Art Program here in Santa Clara County, I will be incorporating green elements into my new studio (moving in this weekend...) Energy efficiency and eco-friendly materials are just two examples of what we will be evaluating during the studio makeover. More to come, as my studio gets inspected and we begin to trade the materials I use now for materials that are more environmentally friendly.
